Who We Are
The Town of Hudson’s Disaster Animal Response Team (Hudson DART) is a local volunteer organization operating under the auspices of the Town of Hudson Board of Health and the Town of Hudson Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) to prepare and assist pet owners in case of emergencies when they need to evacuate their homes with their pets.
We are affiliated with the State of Massachusetts Animal Response Team (SMART). This affiliation enables us to respond to more extended emergencies requiring more facilities or volunteers than we can provide.
What We Do
Raise Awareness
Hudson DART promotes awareness among the residents of Hudson about the need to plan for emergencies. We provide tools to assist residents to incorporate planning for pets in their family emergency planning.
Plan for Co-Sheltering
Hudson DART has worked with the Hudson Fire Chief, in his capacity as Hudson’s Emergency Management Director, to develop a plan for residents to co-shelter with their pets in emergencies when they must evacuate their homes. In such a situation, Hudson DART, working in partnership with the Fire Department, will set up and manage a co-shelter for pet animals. Pet owners staying in the co-shelter will care for their animals under the direction of Hudson DART volunteers.
Coordinate and Cooperate
Hudson DART works with nearby communities and the State of Massachusetts Animal Response Team (SMART) to ensure mutual aid and cooperation.
